Resident Safety and Elimination of Errors

Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems (EMHS) has a vision to be the best rural health care provider in America by the year 2012.  EMHS long term care providers support this vision by focusing on resident safety and elimination of errors.  This group is made up of administrators from long term care settings, including nursing homes and assisted living facilities.  We realize error can occur in all health care institutions and our best opportunity for eliminating harm comes from consistent data collection, evaluation of outcomes and shared learning on best practices.

For any specific case, it may ne impossible to establish with certainty what specific action could have prevented harm.  Our philosophy is to use an approach that focuses on root cause analysis and provides an opportunity to prevent future resident safety issues from occurring.  The individual long term care facility executive and quality teams evaluate safety, clinical quality outcomes and oversee continuous quality improvement.
