Putting Green Opens

Following a barbecue, residents and staff recently gathered for the Grand Opening, Ribbon Cutting, and naming of the Piney Knoll Putting Green.  Despite a drizzle, a large crowd watched the first ever putting contest where cottage resident Joe sank a long putt to claim to claim his prize and title.  Residents have continued the putting contests every Saturday morning.

Fish Stocking

Holding the bag of trout is Mike Bourgon of Dirigo Pines with fly-fishing rookies Cora  and Dolores looking on before they are released into the Dirigo ponds.  The ladies are getting ready for the Annual Dirigo Pines Fishing Derby & BBQ on Friday, June 6 from 9 AM - 1 PM at the Dearborn Pond.

Fly-fishing in Steller Pond

Gateway Seniors Without Wall recently hosted a free fly-fishing demonstration at one of the Dirigo Pines Retirement Community ponds.  Fly-fishing expert Dave Walker had a beautiful display of reels, rods, flies and assorted fishing items for attendees to handle and use.  Coincidentally, Dirigo Pines was stocking trout during the presentation so students could get an up-close look at what they might be catching.  Walker, seen here with the hat, has 2 original flies displayed in the Orvis catalog.

Art Show Huge Success

Fourteen artists had their works displayed in five of our beautiful cottages in May.  Although it was a rainy day, residents and the public enjoyed shuttling around the cottages to the different displays.  See here is artist Jayne Bowler with cottage host Emily Taylor.
